History:

Built by Rev. Hamilton in 1829 together with adjacent chruch in 1830. Some of the cut stone for the Georgian Mansion came from the old church at Churchill. Originally there was a large farm attached to the Rectory, which gave income to the Rector and was a major employer in the area. Dean Tottenham extended the house in the 1880s to provide accommodation for his wife’s maiden sisters who came to start a lace school. They developed the Inishmacsaint Needle lace, which was highly prized and given as gifts to royalty. In extending the house, Dean Tottenham was also able to put in a servants staircase from basement to attic.

In the 1940s the mansion was privately bought and occupied by a succession of families.
As a child in the early 1900s, the author CS Lewis visited his grandfather who was rector at Benmore and may have gained inspirations from the large old house and beautiful countryside for his later “Narnia” books.

The entire property is a dream to be discovered with numerous future commercial and private uses. Given its close proximity to Enniskillen and scenic location it should attract good local and national interest.
